TELLAN CANINE FERTILITY
Canine cytology ovulation testing is a safe, painless procedure performed on female dogs during their season. The cells present in the vagina vary at different stages of estrus. Progesterone is produced before ovulation and I use this characteristic of the canine estrus cycle to determine when the bitch ovulates.
CANINE OVULATION
Mistimed breeding is by far the most common cause of infertility in the bitch. Canine cytology swab testing can pinpoint the optimum breeding window to increase conception rates. A swab is taken of the cells lining the vagina and analysed under a specialised microscope which allows me to identify which stage of estrus your dog is currently in, if she has ovulated yet and if she is ready to conceive.
INCREASE CHANCES OF PREGNANCYÂ
Female dogs ovulate 48 hours after the LH surge or Day 2 post LH. They go through a further maturation phase post ovulation so their optimum fertile period is Days 4 through Day 6 and post LH surge. I recommend that canine cytology ovulation testing be performed from day 7 throughout the whole season. Ideally, this should be done every other day to provide a complete overview. This process eliminates the margin of error and the risk of fake clusters being present.
